COLUMBIA, S.C. — A gorilla is back in its enclosure after briefly escaping at a South Carolina zoo and injuring a worker.
Multiple media outlets reported Friday that the gorilla named Mike escaped his exhibit for about five minutes and injured a food service employee.
A spokeswoman for Riverbanks Zoo and Garden in Columbia did not immediately return a call.
No details were immediately available on the worker's condition.
The animal returned to his enclosure on his own.
Visitors were asked to go inside buildings or to leave the zoo for about 45 minutes, but things were back to normal by noon.
The zoo's Web site says it has three western lowland gorillas, all of them males. It says the group came from the Philadelphia Zoo in July 2004.
